Wike vows to fight PDP Govs meddling in Rivers politics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to fellow Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, declaring his determination to prevent any attempt to take over the party’s structure in Rivers State.

Speaking during the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike emphasized that he would not tolerate interference from any PDP governor in the affairs of the party within the South-South state.

He further threatened to instigate political crises in the states of any governors who attempt to meddle in Rivers State’s political landscape.

This development follows a recent meeting of PDP governors in Taraba State on August 23, where they discussed the ongoing internal crisis within the party in Rivers State.

The governors, through a communique delivered by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed their support for the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and called for a review of the party congress outcome to reaffirm Fubara’s leadership in the state.

Wike, however, made it clear that the affairs of the PDP in Rivers State are not up for external influence, urging the governors to focus on their own states and avoid any involvement in Rivers’ political dynamics.

He said, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give back to somebody.

“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see you take.

“Because I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and so their heads are getting big that you will put a hand in my own state. Prepare because I have the capacity to also do the same thing in your own state.

“Whether you are from Bauchi, I don’t give a damn, whichever state you are from, as far as I know, that you are trying to put yourself in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep in your state.”

The Rivers PDP has been in crisis following the fallout between Wike and his predecessor, who was absent at the congress.

In attendance alongside the minister were some serving and past lawmakers at both federal and state levels, former council chairmen, and other party faithful.
