Zainab Isa, 22, has been apprehended by the Yobe State Police Command for the alleged murder of her spouse, Ibrahim Yahaya, 25, in Abbari Ward, Damaturu City.

DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this incident in a statement that was made available to journalists in Damaturu.

DSP Abdulkareem expressed the command’s sorrow over the tragic incident, which stemmed from an abusive marriage. The C Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from a neighbor who reported that the couple had a violent argument, leading to a scuffle.

According to the neighbor, Zainab Isa stabbed her husband in the chest with a knife, resulting in his death before the police rescue team could arrive.

Following her arrest, Zainab Isa was taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation and will be arraigned in court.

In her confession, Zainab Isa claimed that she did not intend to kill her husband but acted in self-defense. She described a marriage marked by persistent violence, often triggered when she requested food or money. This pattern of abuse continued even after the birth of their first child and the arrival of their second child, despite her husband’s inability to provide for their needs.

The Yobe State Police Command remains committed to conducting a detailed investigation to ensure justice is served in this tragic case.
