Yobe Police nab two for assault of 12-year-old girl

Security operatives in Yobe State have apprehended two suspects for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl, causing severe injuries in Tarmuwa Local Government Area.  

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Bawa Saidu and 25-year-old Weti Saleh, both residents of Jalingo village, were taken into custody by officers from the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters. Their arrest took place on February 15, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, indicating that the raped victim received immediate medical attention, while the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Damaturu for discreet investigation.

In another development, the statement said operatives of A Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, arrested three suspects, found in possession of a dismantled motorcycle and other stolen items.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

“In a separate incident, Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters collaborated with vigilante to rescue Hassan Alh Yau, 15, of Kojolo Hamlet, Dadawel Village.

“The victim was kidnapped on February 12, 2025, by criminal elements demanding a ransom.

“The successful rescue operation resulted in the recovery of dangerous weapons, including a single-barrel gun. The suspects fled after a gun duel, leaving the victim and other belongings behind.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects”, the statement added.

Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed, in the statement, commended the efforts of the command, reiterating its sustained commitment to fighting criminal elements in the state.
