The Defence Headquarters has dismissed claims made by former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, regarding his ability to bring down military aircraft allegedly hovering over his house during the recent Rivers State local government elections.

In a viral video, Dokubo claimed that the aircraft were attempting to intimidate him due to his support for the elections and boasted, “The federal government knows that I have the capacity to bring down any aircraft.”

In response, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, refuted Dokubo’s assertions, calling them “laughable” and asserting that Dokubo lacks the capability to challenge or shoot down military aircraft. Buba described Dokubo’s remarks as mere “blabbing,” emphasizing that the military adheres to professional standards while conducting national security operations, often involving aircraft and helicopters.

Buba also addressed reports of 13 repentant Boko Haram terrorists escaping from a rehabilitation camp, clarifying that the military is not in charge of the Deradicalization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRRR) program.

He reassured the public that measures are being taken to ensure the program’s effectiveness.

Additionally, Buba highlighted the military’s progress in combating terrorism and banditry in the North West, revealing that over 300 terrorist commanders were neutralized in recent operations.

He noted that the military has revised its strategy to replicate the successes seen in the North East, with some wanted terrorist leaders expressing a willingness to surrender under the new initiative, “Operation Fasan Yamma.”
