2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets fall to Germany in 3-1 defeat
Nigeria’s Falconets fell to a 3-1 defeat against Germany in their second group game at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday morning, marking their sixth unsuccessful attempt to beat the Germans at this level.
Germany took control early on, with Alara Sehitler scoring in the 17th minute to give her side the lead.
Despite Nigeria’s efforts to recover, they couldn’t capitalize on their chances in the first half.
Chris Danjuma’s team found a lifeline five minutes into the second half when Chiamaka Okwuchukwu netted the equalizer.
However, Germany regained control of the game 11 minutes later with a goal from Sofie Zdebel, sealing the 3-1 victory.
Substitute Sarah Ernst added the third in stoppage time
The Falconets will take on Venezuela in their last group game at the Estadio Olympico Pascual Guerrero, Cali on Sunday.
