Barcelona secures Wojciech Szczesny in major transfer deal
Veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is set to step in for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen following a long-term injury sustained by the Barcelona shot-stopper during a 5-1 victory over Villarreal.
The news, revealed by sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, marks a pivotal moment for the 34-year-old.
After passing a medical examination, Szczesny will sign a one-year contract, despite having announced his retirement from professional football on August 27.
His decision to return comes shortly after a mutual agreement with Juventus to terminate his contract. Szczesny’s unexpected comeback provides a timely solution for Barcelona as they face the season without Ter Stegen.
The Blaugrana were also linked with other goalkeepers including Loris Karius, Keylor Navas, and Claudio Bravo, who was a former shot-stopper of the club and has also called it quit from the round leather game.
