Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 triumph over AC Milan on Tuesday night, securing their second consecutive victory in the Champions League group stage.

The match saw Boniface deliver a crucial goal early in the second half, ensuring Leverkusen maintained their perfect start in Europe’s premier club competition.

Leverkusen, who came close to European glory last season as Europa League finalists, have carried their form into the Champions League, winning both group matches without conceding a single goal.

Boniface, ever-present in the opposition’s box, thought he had opened the scoring in the 21st minute, only for VAR to rule out the goal for offside. However, the Nigerian striker did not relent.

The breakthrough came six minutes into the second half when Boniface pounced on a rebound after a low shot by Jeremie Frimpong was parried by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Nigerian’s sharp instincts handed Leverkusen the lead and eventually the victory.

Despite Milan’s late surge, including a near miss from Theo Hernandez, Leverkusen held firm to secure all three points. With this victory, Xabi Alonso’s side continues to impress in the Champions League, while AC Milan faces a tough challenge after suffering their second consecutive defeat.
