Abia police nab three in vonnection with beheading of couple in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to the brutal murder of an elderly couple, found beheaded in their apartment in Etiti-ulo, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed the arrests.

The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo, had previously sparked widespread condemnation.

Prominent figures, including former governor and senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, have called for a full investigation into the gruesome crime.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended following an investigation initiated after a crime scene examination.

They are currently undergoing further interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Umuahia.

The police statement revealed, “On 2/10/2024, a report was received at the Bende Divisional Headquarters around 0830hrs that Mr. Jacob Udo, 78, and Mrs. Dorcas Jacob, 73, were found dead in a pool of blood at their residence in Etiti-ulo, Bende LGA.

Several properties were also stolen from the house.”

The bodies of the couple were transferred to the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue. Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has expressed deep concern over the killings and vowed to ensure a thorough investigation.
