Osimhen, Icardi shines in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win over Antalyaspor
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen made a notable return from injury during Galatasaray’s convincing 3-0 victory against Antalyaspor on Saturday.
Substituted in the 78th minute for Yunus Akgün, Osimhen received a warm ovation from the fans, marking his impactful return to the pitch.
Galatasaray had already established control of the match, largely thanks to Mauro Icardi, who scored twice to secure a brace earlier in the game. Osimhen’s presence on the field further solidified the team’s attacking prowess.
The striker had recently faced a setback due to injury, which occurred during a thrilling 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa, where he had scored two goals in just eight minutes, showcasing a return to form after a brief scoring drought.
Last Saturday, News360 Nigeria reported that Osimhen had begun solo training in his quest for recovery.
During the international break, Galatasaray shared a 1.52-second video showing him engaged in a solo training session, offering fans hope for his swift return.
The club’s official X (formerly Twitter) account announced, “Victor Osimhen worked separately from the team within the scope of a special programme prepared for him.” This update indicated the club’s commitment to his rehabilitation.
Osimhen wasted no time in proving his worth upon returning to competitive action, sealing Galatasaray’s dominance with a late goal in the 92nd minute, further emphasizing his importance to the team’s success. His performance is expected to be a significant boost as Galatasaray continues its campaign in the Turkish league.
The striker scored a nice overhead scissors kick from a free kick from Hakim Ziyech.
His comeback added a thrilling climax to the game, as the Nigerian striker showed no signs of rust, immediately regaining his sharp form.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk expressed his delight with the player’s return.
This goal, in his first match back, solidified Osimhen’s place as a key player for Galatasaray, much to the delight of supporters.
This victory took Galatasaray to 25 points from nine games played, topping the league table.
News360 Nigeria reports that the club will host Istanbul rivals Besiktas in their next league game on Monday, 28th October.
They will, however, host IF Elfsborg on Wednesday in the Europa League.
