Messi clinches MLS MVP after historic first season with Inter Miami
Lionel Messi has been named Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Most Valuable Player (MVP) for 2024 following an exceptional debut season with Inter Miami.
The Argentine legend, 37, led Miami to a record-breaking regular season, helping the club secure its first-ever Supporters’ Shield.
Despite playing only 19 games due to injuries, Messi achieved remarkable statistics, with a league-best 36 goal contributions, 20 goals and 16 assists.
His performances transformed Miami’s campaign, setting a new points record for the regular season.
However, Miami’s season ended in disappointment as they were eliminated in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs. Still, Messi’s impact has been celebrated, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players in football history.
This accolade adds another feather to Messi’s illustrious cap, following his World Cup win in 2022 and continued dominance on the global stage.
Messi is the 10th South American to win the MVP, and the fifth from Argentina after Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Christian Gomez.
