Israel launches widespread offensive attack on Syria military camps
In the wake of the Assad regime’s collapse, Israel has launched an extensive military campaign across Syria, marking its most significant military action in decades.
Over the past 48 hours, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported striking approximately 480 military sites across Syria, targeting strategic weapons stockpiles, anti-aircraft batteries, airfields, and weapons production facilities. Key cities hit include Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra.
Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the destruction of the Syrian navy, with Israeli naval forces attacking the al Bayda and Latakia naval ports, eliminating about 15 vessels. Katz described the operation as “a great success.”
This military response also saw Israeli ground troops advancing into and beyond the demilitarized buffer zone, a move unprecedented in the last 50 years.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the strikes, emphasizing the need to prevent weapons controlled by the Assad regime from falling into the hands of jihadists. He stated, “Our actions are aimed at ensuring regional security and safeguarding our national interests.”
“We have no intention of interfering in the internal affairs of Syria,” he said in a video statement, “but we certainly do intend to do what is necessary to ensure our security.
Fighting continues in northern Syria between pro-Turkish, Kurdish factions
Two paramedics were killed, the SDF said, when their ambulance was struck by a drone. A woman was killed when the vehicle she was traveling in was hit.
The SDF claimed Turkish warplanes and drones were “flying intensively in the airspace in Kobani, Manbij,” and other areas.“Further south in the city of Raqqa, there had been two drone strikes, the SDF said. Social media video showed a plume of smoke rising in one location in Raqqa. Turkish military and intelligence declined to comment on the strikes. Turkish-backed factions in northern Syria also possess attack drones but have not commented on the situation in Raqqa.
