Why I will campaign for Seyi Tinubu if he runs for Lagos guber poll in 2027 – Verydarkman
Prominent social media commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed his readiness to campaign for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, should he decide to run for the Lagos State governorship position.
VDM shared his perspective in a video posted on his Instagram page on Friday, stating that Seyi Tinubu’s rumored political aspirations are beginning to gain momentum. According to him, early supporters of Seyi’s potential candidacy appear to be testing the waters.
“If Seyi Tinubu decides to run for governorship, I’ll campaign for him,” VDM said. “Though I don’t involve myself in politics, I’ll do it because of him. Based on my calculation, Seyi Tinubu is a bridge to achieving something I believe will make Nigeria work.”
VDM noted that he has studied Seyi’s political tendencies and believes he mirrors his father’s strategic acumen. However, he acknowledged the potential challenges Seyi might face from seasoned politicians who could view him as a threat.
“The problem is these older men know that if Seyi Tinubu becomes governor, they’ll be kicked out of power. They’ve seen the traits of his father in him, so it’ll be a problem,” VDM said.
“So, if he decides, which I believe won’t work, especially when his father is in office, it might be hard for him to become governor,” he added.
He, however, noted that the possibility of Seyi becoming governor cannot be ruled out, as he cautioned that politics is a “game of interest.”
In November 2024, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party declared that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi as the next governor of the state.
This statement follows recent endorsements of Seyi as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027 by some groups.
One such group, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, issued an endorsement in Owerri, Imo State, suggesting that Seyi would be welcomed to run for governor in Osun or Imo states, where his family is reportedly from.
Similarly, a socio-political group, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, also endorsed him, describing the president’s son as a visionary leader with a rare combination of intellect, empathy, and strategic acumen.
In an interview with Sunday PUNCH, the Lagos PDP spokesperson, Hakeem Amode, rejected the idea, saying, “Lagos will not serve him.”
