DSS intercepts arms shipment in Zamfara, hands over weapons to Gov Lawal
Security operatives in Zamfara have intercepted a large cache of weapons allegedly smuggled from Niger Republic by a suspected gunrunner.
The arms, which included a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), two machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, two pistols, 19 magazines, and nearly 1,000 rounds of live ammunition, were presented to Governor Dauda Lawal at the Government House, Gusau.
The operation was carried out by the Department of State Services (DSS) in collaboration with other security agencies along Kaura Namoda Road. According to reports, the suspect, a middle-aged Zamfara indigene, was apprehended while attempting to transport the weapons into the state.
Speaking on the development, Governor Lawal attributed the increasing inflow of illegal firearms to the region’s porous borders. He commended the synergy between security agencies, emphasizing that such collaboration has led to multiple breakthroughs in the fight against banditry.
He urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies to help combat criminal elements in the state.
