Tension in Osun as gunmen kill one, injure several others over monarch appointment
Tension has erupted in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, following a sporadic shooting by gunmen, which left one person dead and several others injured.
The deceased, identified as Clement Ajayi, was reportedly struck by a bullet fired by armed men alleged to be security operatives deployed to maintain order amid a chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The unrest follows the recent appointment of Prince Timileyin Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle, a decision announced by the Osun State Government last week.
The appointment has faced stiff resistance from residents of the community, located behind Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but tensions remain high as the community grapples with the fallout of the chieftaincy dispute.
The shooting has led to some people sustaining various gunshot injuries, and students and residents scampered for safety.
Reacting to the Spokesperson, Osun police command, Yemisi Opalola, said police have been deployed to the area to return to normalcy.
