US Lawmaker Al Green moves to impeach Trump over Gaza remarks
Al Green, a Democratic lawmaker from Texas, has announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Donald Trump over the former president’s statement about taking over Gaza.
During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, Trump declared that the US would take control of Gaza to “dismantle and develop it,” calling the region a “hellhole.”
In response, Green condemned the remarks, describing them as a “dastardly deed” and likening them to ethnic cleansing.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” Green stated.
He vowed to push forward with impeachment proceedings, emphasizing that the movement would be led by the people rather than top political leaders.
Green has previously attempted multiple unsuccessful impeachment efforts against Trump during his first term, and this latest attempt is unlikely to gain significant traction, as impeachment is not currently a priority for his party.
