The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of more than 10 individuals, including a mosque Imam, during early morning (Subhi) prayers in the Bushe community of Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
DSP Ahmed Rufai, the command’s spokesperson, stated that security forces, including the police and military, are actively working to rescue the victims and track down the terrorists responsible for the attack.
Local sources reported that the gunmen stormed the mosque in the early hours of Thursday, January 6, 2025, kidnapping worshippers while prayers were ongoing. Despite the presence of security personnel in the area, the community has suffered continuous harassment from the assailants.
However, the timely intervention of Nigerian Army troops helped to limit the scale of the attack.
A lawmaker representing the Sabon Birni B State Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly confirmed the incident, stating that at least 10 individuals were taken. He also commended security agencies for their swift response and efforts to restore calm to the area.
