Five killed, many injured in Ebonyi transport bus accident

Tragedy struck on Friday as five passengers lost their lives in a fatal accident involving an 18-seater Toyota bus operated by the Ebonyi Transport Corporation.
The crash occurred along the Umuahia section of the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, near Ohiya Mechanic Village and the Abia Tower of Peace in Umuahia, Abia State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus somersaulted multiple times, resulting in the deaths of five occupants.
Several others sustained severe injuries and were swiftly transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for urgent medical attention.
No official factor has been established to have caused the crash but some eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the Ebonyi Transport Company bus suffered fatigue and dozed off on while riding on the highway.
Another account claimed that it may have been caused by a break failure.
But the officials of Abia State Emergency Service quickly arrived at the accident scene to rush the injured passengers to the FMC, while the bodies of the dead victims were also deposited at the FMC mortuary.
