Biafra Day: Ohanaeze President, Iwuanyawu, pays visit to Nnamdi Kanu in detention
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has given account of his visit to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in DSS Headquarters in Abuja on May 30th.
Iwuanyawu is said to have met with Kanu and had a lengthy conversation.
Iwuanyawu stated that IPOB has denied involvement in violence and that whatever insecurity exists in the East is the result of criminal activity rather than agitation.
He stated that Nnamdi Kanu is saddened and angered that certain people may be hiding behind agitation to perpetrate illegal crimes.
He repeated Kanu’s opposition to soldier killings, enforced sit-at-home policies, and denying youths the opportunity to take exams.
Iwuanyawu stated that if IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu were responsible for instability in the East, they would not have the widespread support they do now.
According to Iwuanyawu, Nnamdi Kanu represents Igbo discrimination in Nigeria.
He reminded the reporters that some Yorubas are calling for an Oduduwa Republic, some Ijaws are calling for a separate country, and some Northerners are saying the same, so the desire to leave Nigeria is not new.
He asked for Nnamdi Kanu’s release via a political process.
He underlined that the best way to fix Nigeria’s problems is to reorganise the country and return authority to the federating units, allowing everyone to grow according to their talents.
He claimed that the constitution has given the President of Nigeria excessive powers that he or she should not have.
He concluded by stating that if Nigeria refuses to reorganise, nothing changes.
