In the early hours of Saturday morning, an unknown number of robbers stormef Volcano, a nightclub located in Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, killing a disc jockey known as DJ Bash.

According to Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police, officers were not promptly informed of the incident; however, investigations had been initiated to ascertain the details of the crime.

The police further stated that the heist, estimated to have taken place around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, was only brought to their attention around 5:30 a.m. even though the nightclub was only minutes from a nearby police station.

Ms Adeh expressed deep concerns about Volcano nightclub’s conduct in not promptly reporting the incident. She stressed that an outsider notified the police at 5:30 a.m., hours after the robbery had ended.

“The police was(sic) not alert on time, but investigation has commenced,” Ms Adeh wrote on X Saturday evening.

She assured residents that security officers were monitoring the situation and advised them to be vigilant and report suspicious activities.

“We advise residents to always be conscious of their surroundings. When you notice suspicious activity, call the police immediately, and we will respond swiftly,” the FCT police spokesperson said.

Ms Adeh urged citizens to phone the police emergency lines, emphasising that the same effort that goes into announcing crimes on social media should also be directed towards calling the hotlines.

She explained that the emergency lines did not belong to the police alone and that other security outfits could speedily respond to distress calls and save the day.

“Again, the FCT police distress emergency numbers are 0803 200 3913, 0806 158 1938,” Ms Adeh wrote on X.
