Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to sign 17-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda in a deal worth approximately £40 million.

The highly-rated youngster is set to sign a seven-year contract with an option for an additional season.

The Blues continue their squad reinforcement strategy, with Quenda seen as a key addition to their attacking depth on the flanks. However, the Portugal Under-21 international will not officially join the club until 2026.

Known for his versatility and exceptional dribbling ability, Quenda has already made an impact at Sporting Lisbon, recording two goals and eight assists in 43 appearances since breaking into the first team.

With three caps for Portugal’s U21 side, he is considered one of the country’s brightest young prospects.

Quenda had been previously linked with a move to Manchester United to reunite with his former manager Ruben Amorim who guided him during the year of his career breakthrough.
