Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor-elect of Edo State, has issued a strong warning to banks and financial institutions, cautioning them against granting last-minute loans or financial instruments to the outgoing administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Okpebholo’s concerns were raised on Wednesday in Abuja, following reports of alleged large-scale looting and financial misconduct within the outgoing government.

Okpebholo accused the Obaseki administration of obtaining dubious loans and looting government properties, including vehicles, furniture, and palliatives, just weeks before the handover.

He called on anti-corruption agencies such as the EFCC, DSS, and the Police to intervene and investigate the situation, warning that those involved in acts of impunity would face serious consequences.

The governor-elect also urged financial institutions to avoid any dealings that could undermine the state’s financial stability during this transition.

He emphasized that his administration would maintain strict oversight to prevent further vandalism and corruption.
