In a crucial match on Saturday, Newcastle United handed Arsenal a significant setback in their Premier League title ambitions with a 1-0 victory, putting leaders Manchester City in a position to extend their lead.

Alexander Isak’s header from Anthony Gordon’s cross in the 12th minute proved decisive, as Arsenal’s lackluster performance saw them create only a single shot on target. The Gunners, struggling with form, have managed just one point in their last three games, casting doubts on their title pursuit.

With Manchester City set to play later, a victory for the defending champions could see them move eight points clear. Liverpool, closely trailing City, face Brighton, adding pressure to Arsenal’s fading campaign. Arsenal’s title challenge appears to be faltering after strong pushes in recent seasons against Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Despite Arsenal’s possession dominance, Newcastle’s intensity kept Arteta’s men from gaining momentum. The hosts nearly doubled their lead with Joe Willock’s attempt early in the second half, saved by David Raya. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta introduced youth player Ethan Nwaneri and Oleksandr Zinchenko to inject energy, but Newcastle’s resilience held strong.

In a tense final stretch, Arsenal missed a late equalizer when Declan Rice’s header off a Bukayo Saka cross narrowly missed. Still missing captain Martin Odegaard, Arsenal now faces tough upcoming fixtures, including a Champions League clash with Inter Milan and a Premier League encounter with Chelsea.

Newcastle’s victory lifts them to eighth in the table, while Arsenal’s title hopes now hinge on a quick turnaround in performance amid a challenging run of games.
