In a dramatic finish at London Stadium, Jarrod Bowen netted a stoppage-time penalty to hand Manchester United a 2-1 defeat, intensifying pressure on Erik ten Hag and lifting West Ham above their rivals in the Premier League standings.

Despite controlling much of the first half, United couldn’t convert their dominance into goals. Their lack of a cutting edge saw them missing numerous opportunities.

The turning point arrived after halftime, as West Ham returned with renewed energy, creating continuous threats in the box.

Their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Crysencio Summerville capitalized on a Danny Ings effort to put the hosts in the lead.

United’s Casemiro brought hope in the closing minutes, heading home a crucial equalizer to seemingly secure a point.

However, controversy struck late, with referee David Coote reviewing a challenge by Matthijs de Ligt on Danny Ings at the VAR’s suggestion.

United’s players protested, citing a possible handball by Ings, but Coote awarded the penalty. Bowen coolly slotted past Andre Onana, sealing the win.

This result leaves United 14th with just three wins from nine matches, while West Ham leapfrogs them, hoping to build momentum after a slow start to the season.
