The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has removed Ohieku Salami from his role as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.

This decision, announced on Wednesday, November 20, followed allegations of misconduct and procedural violations. According to a statement by Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press for the Federal Ministry of Education, Salami’s actions included the suspension of the university’s Vice-Chancellor without adhering to due process.

Despite formal directives from the ministry to reverse the suspension, Salami reportedly refused to comply and engaged in “abusive and threatening behavior” towards ministry officials, including the Permanent Secretary.

Dr. Alausa stated that Salami’s actions undermined the ministry’s supervisory authority and jeopardized the governance and stability of the institution.

“In line with this decision, the minister has requested the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, to restore proper governance and ensure the university operates in accordance with the principles of law, due process, and accountability,” the statement added.
