Fubara has committed an impeachable offence – Wike reacts to Supreme Court judgment

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has committed an impeachable offence.
Wike, who previously governed Rivers State, criticized the notion that three lawmakers could constitute a valid state assembly and make laws for an entire state. His statement follows the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, which nullified the recent local government elections in Rivers State and upheld the legitimacy of the 27-member Martin Amaewhule-led State Assembly.
Speaking to reporters after the ruling, Wike stressed the importance of the legislature in a democratic system. He stated, “The Supreme Court has made it clear that we can’t have a democracy without the legislature. It’s unheard of where someone will say that three people will constitute an Assembly to make law for the entire state. It has nothing to do with an individual, whether you like this person’s face or not. What’s important is: can three people make law for a state?”
He further emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision had settled the matter, adding, “I always say that the wheel of justice is sluggish, but it will always come when it will come.”
Wike also noted that the court directed that the state budget should be presented to the reconstituted and legitimate State Assembly.
