Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has condemned the recent arson attack on the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Kontagora.

Unidentified individuals set the church on fire early Saturday morning.

In a statement from his Special Adviser on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, Governor Bago described the attack as “senseless and cowardly.” Reports indicate that the assailants looted the church before setting it ablaze, causing significant damage to the property on Federal College of Education (FCE) Road in Kontagora.

“This violence is unacceptable and undermines our collective commitment to safety, security, and religious freedom,” Bago said.

In response, Bago has directed security agencies to promptly investigate the incident.

He assured that those responsible for the attack will be apprehended and brought to justice.

The governor urged residents of Kontagora to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and unity. He assured that his administration will take all necessary measures to safeguard places of worship and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Additionally, Bago called on state residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to prevent further violence. He also expressed his commitment to supporting the affected church community and ensuring their safety.
