This follows the recent local government elections where the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) claimed victory in all 44 chairmanship and 484 ward councilor positions, as declared by the Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday after the elected officials received their certificates of return from KANSIEC. Governor Yusuf praised the chairpersons for their dedication and encouraged them to prioritize development and address local concerns in their respective communities.

Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, governor Yusuf urged the new chairmen and councillors to “be just and fair to their people, be good ambassadors of the state, party and an exemplary leaders that would be worthy of emulation while dedicating themselves to service for humanity.”

He said: “We want to use this opportunity to thank all the people of Kano who came out and voted for you and our party in an orderly and peaceful manner. We have never witnessed a peaceful election like this.

“To the chairmen and councillors, you saw how you swore, try and assure that you did not derail from what you sworn to do. Come up with good projects, help the needy and provide them with all the necessary needs. Give priority to education, agriculture, health and help people especially the women folk.

“Make sure you rebuild and bring reform in your various Local Government Secretariats. We want those places to be as standard as it should be representing the executive arm of your LGAs. Bring everyone on board irrespective of political party inclination.

“The state government will continue to support you and work together and we will follow whatever you are doing to ensure that we all do the right thing. Be diligent and work hard for your people.”
