On Friday evening, two police officers were murdered while one was injured in an attack on their checkpoint at the Opobo Junction, which is a popular site along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Motorway in Abia State.

The perpetrators were daredevil gunmen. According to the information obtained, the police officers were conducting their customary evening stop-and-search operation at the junction.

However, a few minutes later, several police patrol teams swept into the area as residents fled the road.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen, numbering six, came in a Sienna sport utility vehicle.

The incident caused chaos in the area, prompting shop owners along the road and traders at Ehere market to close their shops, with some abandoning their wares to seek safety.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how gunmen on May 30 opened fire on a military checkpoint in Obikabia junction in Aba, Abia State.

The terrorists, who also burnt the soldiers’ patrol truck, were said to be enforcing the sit-at-home order declared by IPOB across the South-East region to mark the Biafra Day, which is celebrated annually in the region.

The heavily armed men, clad in black outfits, were seen sporadically firing shots at the junction.
