Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, the running mate of the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, has expressed that neither he nor Peter Obi are surprised by Nigeria’s current economic turmoil.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Labour Party Interim National Caretaker Committee in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed reiterated their warning to Nigerians against electing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Representing Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s ability to replicate and surpass its 2023 electoral achievements by securing a majority in the National Assembly and clinching the presidency in 2027.

He praised the Labour Party’s resilience, stating, “We didn’t have a crisis; we managed a transition that was a bit bumpy, but we are a force to contend with in Africa.”

Highlighting the Labour Party’s efforts to claim their votes in court, he pointed out that the party’s organic rise, fueled by the “obedient” movement, had defeated two major parties in legal battles.

Addressing leadership changes, Baba-Ahmed clarified that Julius Abure’s removal was due to tenure expiration, not political influence. He urged Abure and his team to collaborate with the new Caretaker Committee in rebuilding the party.

Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairperson of the Labour Party National Caretaker Committee, assured party members of their commitment to restoring the party’s strength, while urging members to make sacrifices for its success.

The committee, she said, had already begun its work, focusing on proper sensitization, advocacy, and consensus building to elect new officers.
