Jelili Sulaimon: Lagos Assembly suspends Alimosho LG Chairman over alleged misconduct

The Lagos State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Jelili Sulaimon, the chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, due to alleged misconduct.

The suspension, effective immediately, was backed by a unanimous vote from the lawmakers. Mr. Akinpelu Johnson, the vice chairman, has been directed to take over the council’s leadership.

The suspension follows Jelili’s alleged involvement in a fatal disturbance in Iyana-Ipaja earlier this year, leading to the death of Mr. Micheal Ajayi.

Jelili reportedly defied multiple Assembly directives and mishandled public funds. Lawmakers emphasized that his non-compliance with financial regulations, as highlighted in an Auditor-General’s report, warranted immediate action.

This move aims to serve as a warning to other council chairmen to adhere to governance protocols.

The Assembly further instructed council management to support Johnson in his new role, while also considering a review of wider governance practices across other councils.
