The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, was reportedly attacked by individuals who were suspected to be herdsmen, resulting in the injuries of several members.

Many operatives sustained injuries of differing severity during the incident that transpired in Akure, the state capital, on Friday.

The confrontation began when Amotekun operatives detained several cows accused of destroying farmlands in Osi and Igboba Communities in the North Local Government Area.

As they were transporting approximately 120 seized cows to the Amotekun Command headquarters in Akure, they were ambushed by the herders on the Akure-Ado expressway.

A source informed PUNCH that “as they were transporting the detained cows to the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the herders ambushed them with dangerous weapons at the Sango area, attacking the officers to prevent them from taking the cows away.”

A widely circulated video shows Amotekun officers firing shots into the air to scatter the attackers, while the injured personnel were quickly moved into an Amotekun Hilux van.

Confirming the incident, Jimoh Adeniken, the Public Relations Officer of Ondo Amotekun, stated that an investigation is currently underway.
