Nigerians in diaspora to get BVN, says CBN Governor
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, announced that Nigerians in the diaspora will be required to obtain Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) before the end of the year.
Cardoso made this statement during a meeting with the Nigerian community in Washington, DC.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), aims to enhance diaspora remittances and encourage Nigerians living abroad to engage more actively in the country’s economy.
This move is expected to further streamline financial transactions and economic participation for Nigerians globally.
Mr. Cardoso said: “As far as we are concerned, it is totally unacceptable that you should be out here and be having hassles in operating your accounts or doing business in your original country.”
The CBN boss also met with international investors, where he explained the current monetary policy reforms.
Also, he urged them to take advantage of the attractive economic environment to invest in Nigeria.
