The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed Arolat Petrol Station, located along Ayetoro Roundabout Road in Abeokuta, following allegations of underground water pollution.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Farouk Akintunde, the decision was taken after receiving a petition from the Foursquare Gospel Church, which is situated next to the fuel station.

The church reported that its only water source, a well, had been contaminated with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Akintunde stated that the petrol station would remain sealed until investigations into the matter were concluded.

The government assured residents that appropriate measures would be taken to protect public health and the environment.

He noted that the enforcement team of the Agency sealed up the facility to carry out proper investigation, such as identification of contaminated areas, extent of the contamination and ascertaining the present underground water status.

“As a responsive and responsible agency, the safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount and must not be compromise for any reason,” he Said.
