OPINION: OLUMBA OLUMBA OBU, his followers and the succession crisis in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star
After seeing videos of the Press Conference organized by the hierarchy of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star to address some burning developments in their church that were capable of causing image crisis, I can say vividly say that for the first time in my life I now understand the beliefs, and perspectives of the followers of OLUMBA OLUMBA OBU.
Worship is about encounters, and I dare say that one cannot sit at home and argue with another person that says he or she has encountered God, otherwise we begin with all the church founders who have different interesting stories of how God called them.
What I make from the videos I’ve seen is that BCS members believe in Jesus Christ, they pray and do everything in His name, just as other Christians do, they however go a step further to believe that whilst the rest of the world do not know the whereabouts of Jesus Christ right now (physically), they believe that God is always with men in flesh, and that the latest version of God in flesh and blood was or is Leader OLUMBA OBU.
I don’t know what they have encountered, but from stories around, I can say that Brotherhood is one of the churches with the highest number of instant miracles in their midst. No one ever became a BCS member for fun their members are people who got saved, healed, or blessed before they became members. Most people who had privileges to meet Olumba Olumba Obu one on one got the miracles they needed, others got their miracles via his ministrations to congregations of thousands of attendees, they had encountered so much miracles just as Christ followers encountered , so how can I convince them that they have not seen God through Obu. Obu came, did so many miracles and died, even Jesus Christ died also at 33years. The arguments the rest of us have would be that Obu was not mentioned in the Bible as one that will come after Christ.
As for the leadership battle of Roland, Prince Roland, or who is the new President, that is not a serious issue to me, nearly every church established by one man as founder is liable to have leadership battle when the original founder is old or is gone to the great beyond. Few weeks ago we saw Winners Chapel retiring very active anointed Vice Presidents, who are now about to begin their own ministeriies, that was a succession plan Oyedepo is trying to retire some and position others to take over, my church founder is still alive you can’t predict what will happen the day he is gone, it happens to companies too, succession crisis can happen is any organization, if not well managed fight can burst so I can’t judge Brotherhood of the Cross and Star by the administrative crisis they have.
My guess is that members of that church have had encounters, miracles, revelations that makes them to believe that the one who has made these things happen cannot be any other one than Jesus Christ manifests in flesh again, and based on their experience they have a right to believe so. And if you doubt them GO AND SEE.
I’m happy that they believe in Jesus Christ, the only issue now is that they also believe that Christ came, died and returned to the Father, and that He has come back through Leader Obu. BCS does everything in the name of Jesus Christ which is the fulcrum of Christianity, if they didn’t believe that Christ came, died and resurrected I would have said they are not Christians.
My closing statement is that let all of us who believe in Christ just as BCS believes in Christ, let all of us grow together till the last day.
No need to condemn one another.
