Osun Court orders woman to pay N150,000 over failure to visit boyfriend after collecting N3,000 transport fare

A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ruled against Rhoda Adu, ordering her to pay N150,000 in damages for failing to visit her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after collecting N3,000 for transportation.

The incident unfolded when Ms. Adu switched off her phone and failed to show up despite receiving the money. Mr. Olapitan, feeling defrauded and emotionally distressed, reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station.

During the trial, evidence presented included the N3,000 bank transfer and WhatsApp messages between the two parties.

Delivering the judgment, Magistrate Akogun Oludare directed Ms. Adu to refund the N3,000 transport fare, pay N100,000 for breaching their agreement, and an additional N50,000 as special damages for the emotional distress caused to Mr. Olapitan.

The court stated that the ruling serves as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar acts.
