Present certificates or forfeit October salary – Nigerian Governor tell workers

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has issued a directive requiring all state government employees to submit their original certificates to receive their October salaries.

This move, which could affect over 7,000 workers, follows recent revelations of certificate scandals within various government ministries and agencies.

In a statement released on Thursday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonisouko, clarified that the initiative is not a targeted effort but is aimed at restoring integrity within the civil service.

“Governor Fintiri has directed all workers in government institutions, ministries, boards, and agencies to immediately present their certificates,” Wonisouko said.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that the verification exercise is designed to ensure that only qualified individuals occupy positions, safeguarding opportunities for the younger generation.

He reiterated, “This exercise is not intended to witch-hunt anyone but rather to ensure sanity in the system.”

Employees who fail to comply with the directive will forfeit their October salaries until they submit their certificates.

However, the governor reassured workers that those who comply before the end of October will not face salary suspension.

The decision reflects concerns over individuals exploiting systemic failures, with Governor Fintiri stressing that the civil service should be a place of scholarship and honesty, not a refuge for unqualified personnel.
