The Nigerian Senate has summoned Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), following allegations made against Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Ashiru, representing Kwara South.

The move came after Senator Ashiru raised a point of order during a plenary session, seeking to address accusations levied against him by the NDLEA. The agency had claimed that Ashiru made derogatory remarks about them during a Senate debate, which they attributed to a personal vendetta over the arrest of his aides in Ilorin, Kwara State, for drug-related offenses.

In response, the Senate has set up a six-member committee, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, to investigate the situation. Other members include Senators Kaka Shehu, Ede Dafinone, Ireti Kingibe, Afolabi Shauibu, and Lawal Usman. The committee’s task is to summon all parties involved and thoroughly examine the matter.

During the session, Senator Ashiru denied any involvement with drugs, stressing that he neither consumes alcohol nor carbonated drinks. He urged his colleagues to address the issue seriously, as the allegations have tarnished his reputation.
