Shettima visits Maiduguri flood victims, announce 50 trucks of rice donation
Vice-President Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to sympathize with the people of Borno over the devastating Alau dam flood, which displaced thousands.
Accompanied by a federal government delegation, Shettima was received by Governor Babagana Zulum and visited the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, whose palace was also affected by the flood.
Shettima later visited the Bakassi camp, where thousands of flood victims had taken refuge, and assured them of government support.
He announced the provision of 50 trucks of rice and emphasized the government’s collaboration with the North-East Development Commission and other agencies to ensure that the victims would not remain at the camp for more than two weeks.
The flooding, which submerged buildings, roads, and bridges, has caused widespread damage across Maiduguri.
The government has vowed to provide immediate relief to affected residents.
