Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly killed more than 20 farmers in a violent attack across four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the weekend, left residents in shock as the assailants unleashed terror on the affected villages.

The communities targeted include Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camps within the Ala Elefosan area.

So far, 14 bodies have been recovered, while search efforts continue for missing persons.

Speaking on the incident, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, the Regent of Ademekun Village, confirmed that the attackers infiltrated the communities before opening fire indiscriminately.

“The herdsmen entered our community through the Edo-Ondo boundary and began shooting sporadically. During Akeredolu’s administration, Amotekun came to our rescue, and the perpetrators were arrested and paraded. Since then, peace had returned to the community until now,” she said.

Confirming the attack, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, stated that police operatives have been deployed to the affected areas to restore order.
