Tears flow as three young girls drown in Jigawa pond
In a tragic incident in Tulla village, Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State, three teenage girls drowned in a pond while attempting to harvest grass for their livestock.
The victims, identified as Fatima Sule (12), Nasiya Sale (12), and Huwaila Sa’adu (13), lost their lives during the accident.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State reported that the girls were working near the pond when the tragedy occurred. An emergency call was received by the NSCDC’s Buji Local Government Divisional Officer at around 11:00 AM on Saturday, prompting the dispatch of a rescue team to the scene.
With assistance from local community members, the bodies of the three girls were recovered after about 30 minutes of searching. They were taken to the Tulla village Health Center, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. The remains were returned to their families and buried according to Islamic funeral rites.
The incident has left the community in mourning, and the NSCDC has urged residents to exercise caution during the rainy season to avoid similar tragedies.
