Tinubu writes Senate, seeks increase in 2025 budget to ₦54.2trn
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested an upward review of the proposed 2025 Appropriation Bill, raising it from ₦49.7 trillion to ₦54.2 trillion.
The request was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Tinubu initially presented the ₦49.7 trillion budget proposal to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024. However, he explained in his letter that the increase is due to additional revenue generated by key government agencies:
₦1.4 trillion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
₦1.2 trillion from the Nigeria Customs Service
₦1.8 trillion from other government-owned agencies
Following the letter’s reading, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for swift consideration. He assured that the budget review and passage would be completed before the end of February.
