A stampede at the Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC) in Aba, Abia State, on Sunday, November 25, claimed the lives of two women and left several others injured.

The incident occurred following the Christ the King procession, which attracted a large crowd. Chaos ensued when security personnel blocked the church entrance, leading to a stampede. Efforts to save the women, who were rushed to Mendel Hospital, were unsuccessful.

A young boy, Peter Clever, who survived the stampede, is receiving treatment at Victorious Hospital. Peter, separated from his family during the event, has appealed for assistance in reuniting with his mother, who was attending a service at St. Theresa’s Parish, while he participated at Blessed Iwene Tansi’s Parish.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of improved crowd management measures during large religious gatherings.
