Dangote truck rams into Lagos market, kill three, injure others
A tragic accident involving a Dangote Company cement truck has claimed the lives of at least three people and left several others injured on Tuesday at Ayetoro junction along the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.
The fatal incident occurred when the truck, reportedly suffering from brake failure, lost control while descending from Ita-Opo.
According to eyewitness accounts, the out-of-control vehicle collided with a tricycle and a stationary Toyota Camry under the traffic light at Ayetoro, before plowing into the Ayetoro complex and market area, causing panic and concern among residents and road users.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the chaotic scene, and efforts are ongoing to clear the roadway, with a tow truck already working to remove the wreckage. Authorities have implemented temporary traffic diversions to alleviate congestion and ensure the safety of commuters.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed via a post on its official X account that the bodies of the three deceased victims have been deposited at Epe General Hospital morgue.
“3 lives were lost and they’ve been taken to the morgue at Epe General Hospital while we have a Tow truck on ground to evacuate the affected vehicles.
“Traffic has been diverted for easy vehicular movement,” the post partly reads.
Commuters have, however, been advised to avoid the Ita-Opo to Ayetoro route and instead follow the detours provided, from Ita-Opo to Shade or via the roundabout near the General Hospital.
Drivers and pedestrians are further urged to adhere to the redirected pathways to avoid further disruptions as authorities manage the situation.
