Two travellers, 40 Donkeys, dies in Jigawa accident

A fatal motor accident in Shiwarin town, located in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has led to the tragic deaths of two passengers and forty donkeys.

The incident, confirmed by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesman for the Jigawa State Police Command, occurred when a loaded vehicle lost control and crashed.

According to the police statement, the accident involved a DAF truck with registration number NGU 498 XA, driven by Mohd Hassan from Potiskum LGA, Yobe State.

The vehicle was carrying 100 donkeys along with passengers, and upon reaching Shiwarin town, the driver reportedly lost control, resulting in the vehicle overturning.

The two passengers who died on the spot were identified as Innani Abubakar and Kalifa Adamu, both from Potiskum. Additionally, the driver sustained severe injuries, including the loss of his left hand, and was subsequently transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano for further treatment.

This tragic accident underscores the dangers associated with long-distance animal transport on Nigerian roads and highlights the need for heightened safety measures.
