A 78-year-old man, Akanbi Adedoyin, tragically lost his life after allegedly being struck on the head by his grandson during a heated argument in Ilare-Ijesa, Osun State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, reportedly stemmed from a dispute over farmland ownership, PUNCH reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the grandson allegedly hit his grandfather with a plank, causing severe head injuries.

Neighbours who heard Adedoyin’s cries for help rushed to the scene and took him to a local government health facility for initial treatment.

A resident, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, explained that due to the severity of the injuries, they were advised to transfer Adedoyin to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, but financial constraints prevented this. Sadly, Adedoyin succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Another resident, Oludele, stated that community members apprehended Kusibe immediately after the incident and handed him over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. He was subsequently transferred to the Esa Oke Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Owalare of Ilare, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku, urged the police to ensure that justice is served in this case to prevent future occurrences of such violence.

Confirming the incident, Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, stated that their investigation revealed the altercation was indeed over farmland ownership.

The grandson has since been arrested, charged, and remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
