The Abia State Police Command has dismissed three officers over allegations of extortion and abduction of unsuspecting victims along the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway.

According to reports, the dismissed officers, along with two civilians, were arrested by personnel from the Abayi Division in Aba. They were found in possession of an electric baton, an assault rifle, and a Beretta pistol.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had hired a minibus, abducted civilians traveling on the highway, and demanded ransom from their families before releasing them.

Confirming their dismissal, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Abia Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that an orderly room trial was conducted, and the officers were found guilty of misconduct.

“As a result, the public is hereby notified that:

  • Force No. 501356 Sergeant Jonas Nnamdi, attached to the Area Command, Aba.
  • Force No. 511844 Corporal James Daniel, attached to the Department of Operations, Umuahia.
  • Force No. 511853 Corporal Ifeanyi Emeka, attached to Eziama Division.

They have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) effective today, 07/02/2025, and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution alongside their civilian accomplices,” the PPRO announced.

She added that their official police items had been retrieved by the command’s provost, and they no longer have any affiliation with the force.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, reiterated his zero-tolerance policy for corruption and unprofessional conduct, emphasizing that discipline and professionalism remain the foundation of the Nigeria Police Force.

He assured the public that the command is committed to the vision of the Inspector General of Police in promoting a competent, service-driven, and law-abiding police force.
